CEO congress event: Introduction to polo

We recently kicked-off our programming for 2023 in Kuala Lumpur with a CEO congress event, Introduction to polo. Our members were treated to a rather special session at the historic settings of the Selangor Polo Club. Hosted by the Kuala Lumpur Academy of Polo, the session included an introduction to riding and polo, a stable tour and a polo group lesson.

Members then mounted on a polo pony and hit a polo ball on the field. Peter Abisheganaden and Chris Ladbrook were our instructors for the session. Mr Abisheganaden is the founder and coach of the Kuala Lumpur Academy of Polo, as well as an Ambassador of the Federation of International Polo and a 3-time SEA Games gold medallist in equestrian sports. Mr Ladbrook has coached Malaysia’s dressage, show jumping and eventing teams.

EIU’s global lead for trade, Nick Marro joined our members on the field and also discussed our latest view on shifting and shortening supply chains, changes to trade flows, and the impact of geopolitical rivalry on trade over an Argentinian Asado dinner – a traditional barbeque where the meats are slow cooked over coal embers – at the clubhouse.

Special thanks to all our adventurous network members who were willing to try something a bit different, and get out of their comfort zones, and to our South-east Asia Director, Sumana Rajarethnam for organising a great event.
