Consulting Director, Hong Kong
David Line is Consulting Director of the Economist Enterprise Corporate Network in Hong Kong. He has spent his career writing about Asian economics and business affairs, advising the world’s largest organisations on communications strategy and effective stakeholder engagement, and connecting senior executives with their peers.
In 2005-2015 David worked for The Economist Group first as a correspondent in Hong Kong for the EIU’s daily ViewsWire service before heading the Economist Enterprise Corporate Network in Tokyo. Returning to Hong Kong as Managing Editor for the Industry & Management Research team in Asia, he acted as the team’s global lead for financial services research.
In that role David devised and produced numerous high-profile thought leadership campaigns on finance and business strategy, moderated and chaired major conferences, and presented EIU research and analysis to global news media. He also contributed to various publications on the future of finance and Japanese politics and economics.
In 2015 David joined the startup communications consultancy New Narrative where, as co-owner and Partner, he advised financial and professional services companies on their communications and marketing strategies and created thought leadership campaigns designed to engage elite audiences. He led the firm’s commercial expansion in Hong Kong, Singapore and the UK and implemented its AI strategy.
David graduated from Oxford University before obtaining Master’s degrees in Japanese Studies from SOAS and Global Finance from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He has certifications in applied AI from Stanford and the Kellogg School of Management and is studying for a Masters in AI, Ethics and Society at Hong Kong University.
